Sudden Adrenal Fatigue?

The switch from Stage 2 to Stage 3 can happen quickly

The following table shows survey results of visitors on this site.

139 site visitors responded to the survey.

History of Stress?

  • Wired for years before suddenly becoming exhausted.

For the 34.9% that said they became exhausted almost overnight, is there any way to tell if they were stuck in a state of stress leading up to their sudden collapse and exhaustion?

Of the 45 people that responded they suddenly became exhausted, 34 of these people responded that they were:
Wired for years before crashing and becoming exhausted?

75.6% (34 of 45) of the people who became suddenly exhausted (almost overnight), had a history of being wired for years.

A classic symptom of having a dominant sympathetic nervous system is startle response.

If you have an exaggerated startle response, you are essentially stuck in a state of stress. You are ready for a threat around any corner.

Having a dominant sympathetic nervous system makes you more jumpy than other people. It is often described as wired.

Wired usually means you also can't relax, and always feeling like you should be doing something.

Why sudden for some?

When Dr Hans Selye discovered the General Adaptation Syndrome, he noted that the speed of progression from Stage 2 to Stage 3 adrenal fatigue depended on the magnitude of stress6.

On the Adrenal Fatigue forums, people can often associate an event when they became exhuasted.

They were on the way to Stage 3, but a large stressor pushed them over the edge.

It could be a flu, death of a loved one, a pregnancy, mono, or some trauma. The larger the stressor, the more sudden their collapse into exhaustion will seem.

Summary

This article is part of several articles comparing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) to Adrenal Fatigue.

The intent of this article is to show that years of chronic stress can lead to a very sudden plunge into exhaustion.
